I have searched through the options and the preferences.txt but found no mention of line numbers... does such an option exist?

On a small laptop screen with high res, the font is not very readable. I have not found any font-related preferences in the PDE menus, but maybe there is another way, using config files or other resources...

Has anyone succeeded in adapting the font and has an advice?

I create a sketch, then right-click on the SketchName.pde or the Project, select Run as->Processing Sketch, an applet skeleton appears and I get the ClassNotFoundException saying SketchName.class was not found.

It looks like the plugin does not perform any preprocessing or compiling.

I have tried both the core.jar delivered with the plug as the 0195 core.jar

I use the 0.3.1 processing eclipse plugin.
