Help on school assignment.

For a processing class we have to create a small webcam game.
The idea is to have an object move through a maze and you help it along with your hand as a rectangle (cover gaps, lift it up etc.)
Think of lemmings, its kinda like that.
The hand will probably move along X and Y vectors and the object needs to have collision detection.
But we're not sure as to how we are going to accomplish this, any pointers/ideas?
