Call for New Media Artists and Designers Technology + Art + Design Exhibition Deadline: December 20, 2010 We encourage the Processing community to submit work for exhibition! Overview CAM is accepting submissions from new media artists and designers for artwork to be included in a Technology + Art + Design exhibition at the new Contemporary Art Museum (CAM), a museum of art and design in Raleigh, NC. CAM intends to include a broad range of artistic practices and is particularly interested in proposals of site-specific work that fully utilizes our space or engage the space in a nontraditional manner. Strong proposals will be clear and concise, will present innovative and engaging ideas, and will intend to draw a diverse group of participants and visitors. Artworks chosen for the exhibition will: + Use digital technologies such as open source programming software or modified game engines (for example) + Engage our visitors physically as well as intellectually through interactive design or tangible user interfaces + Vary in scale, from room sized projected environments to smaller more intimate objects. Some non-object based online works without a physical gallery component may also be considered. We are most interested in work that necessitates a physical location in order to experience it. + Vary in media: 3D, 2D, screen based, virtual environments, augmented reality, mixed reality, music/sound device, audio visualization, data visualization, generative art, robotics, camera based interactivity, utilization of QR codes, etc…
Submission Guidelines Submissions accepted by email only no later than December 20, 2010. Interested Artists/Designers should submit (by attachment or website links) the following for initial review: +Applicant’s CV/Resume with current contact information +Artistic statement with the title, media (list software if open source) and description of proposed artwork(s). Please note if your artwork is Existing or a proposed site specific Commission. +Technical and installation requirements for the proposed artwork (be specific and realistic about what you need and what you will provide) +Documentation of previous or related artworks Email submissions by December 20, 2010 to:cam_submissions@ncsu.eduwith the subject header Call for Artists: Technology + Art + Design Exhibition. In order to ensure delivery, email messages should be no larger than 5 MB. Web links are preferred to attachments. No phone calls please. Please do not mail original documents as materials will not be returned. There is no entry fee. Artists may submit more than one work. Artists retain full ownership of their works, although by submitting an entry, artists agree to allow CAM and/or its sponsoring partners the unrestricted right to use submitted artwork, in part or in whole, for promotional purposes. Details and Opportunities The museum will contact artists of interest in February 2011. Target exhibition dates are January 2012- April 2012. There will be opportunities for artist honorariums for lectures or workshops. Commissioned artists may receive a stipend, to be determined by CAM, based on scope of work. Shipping and other costs to be negotiated with CAM. We encourage local/regional artists and designers to apply. Who is CAM? CAM is a non-collecting museum of contemporary art and design that is collaboration between NC State College of Design’s CAM Initiative and the Contemporary Art Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit. The museum facility is located in Raleigh’s historic Warehouse District. CAM is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in spring of 2011. CAM is committed to becoming an urban center that stimulates imaginative thinking across boundaries and a venue where every generation can explore the issues and themes of our time through the disciplines of art and design. Inspired interactions with resident artists, designers, curators, and thinkers from a variety of fields will be a centerpiece of public programming.
