Default Blend Mode?

I'm using a technique for continually fading drawings to black. I never call background, but instead I call:
1. fill(0,10);
2. rect(0, 0, width, height);
This worked well for simply drawing to the canvas, but things have become more complicated. I have the original dynamic drawing that I want to continue to fade, but I also want to draw something else on the canvas which does not fade.

My default solution is to maintain that continually fading image as a separate PImage or pixel array. I would draw to that stored PImage as if it was the canvas, then fade it, draw that PImage to the canvas, and then draw my new content.

(if someone has a better way to do that I'd love to hear, but that's not my question)...

I have no idea how the fading effect of drawing a black rectangle is achieved. For example, I wrote this is an effort to create the same effect but I've been unable to replicate it:
1. void fade(int[] src, int[] dst, int w, int h, int alpha) {
2. int c = color(255, alpha);
3. for(int i = 0; i < w * h; i++) {
4. dst[i] = blendColor(src[i], c, [??]); // is there a blending mode that replicates the original effect?
5. }
6. }
I guess another way of asking this question is, what is the default blending mode that processing uses when drawing something to the canvas?

gnu.io.PortInUseException and lock file issues

I'm not the first to post similar issues, but I've found no relief from existing solutions.

I'm getting a variety of serial comm issues, but most of them seem to revolve around gnu.io.PortInUseException : Unknown Application and lock file issues.

I'm connecting using an arduino + BlueSmirf bluetooth mudule. CoolTerm has absolutely no issue connecting so I'm fairly certain its related to processing. If I manually remove the lock file, and start things just right, every once in a while I get a successful connection, so I know that generally speaking the connection settings are correct. But for the most part I get some kind of connection error. The permissions on the lock folder are 777, but I do notice that the lock files themselves are read only.

I'll include errors below for fun. Thanks for any ideas.

I'm developing my first processing library and simultaneously learning Eclipse. Before developing the library the code, and included libraries all worked as referenced classes stored as separate files in the processing IDE. Converting those referenced files to libraries because they need to more widely used.

The library itself references an external library which causes a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError when referenced during runtime. There are no compilation issues. This is the error when I run a sketch referencing my library (which references the included library) from the processing IDE (for some reason when run from Eclipse it still seems to get the error, but doesn't report it to the Console). [sketch is HeartCircle, my lib is heartstuff.HeartStream, missing lib included in HeartStream is jtransforms.fft.FloatFFT_1D]

I've tweaked every reference to classpath I could find in Eclipse GUI (preferences for library and sketch), and the build.properties file for the sketch and my problem library seems to consistently be there.

I have a feeling I'm missing something simple in Eclipse settings or the ANT configuration but not sure what. Please let me know what more info I can provide.
