Flipping Webcam Explanation Please!!

Hello.
I read a few posts but do not quite understand why and how the copied sketch works.
Alternatively, line 15 and 16 could be written with the following three lines. This further confuses me.

scale(-1, 1);

translate(-camera.width, 0);

image(camera, 0, 0);

Shouldn't the -1 of scale() and -width of image() or -camera.width of translate() make the width positive!?

If so, why would it actually flip the webcam?

Would anyone be kind enough to explain or direct me to a resource?

Clearing what is first drawn...

Hello.

Is there a way to clear/delete what is drawn at the very beginning when the sketch is run?

In other words, when this sketch is run, that rectangle at the top left corner is drawn due to the way in which the program runs, I believe. And I would like to know if there is a way to clear/delete that first object (rectangle).

The code is very simple to illustrate this question. I basically would want the Display Window to be in the background color and nothing drawn until the mouse is brought into the Window.

If there is a way around this, please advise! Thank you very much.

Error opening "Find in Reference"

Hi, I am running Processing 2.07b on MacBook and am unable to open Reference from Text Editor.

Some, for example, void, if or mousePressed opens up the reference, but others like ellipse or fill do not.

I have noticed that some of the reference html files includes _ (underscore) in the file name.

Is there a way to fix this?
