My question is as the title says, what is the difference between String[] abc, and String abc[] ??

Hi,

there is no real difference in the variables, but just different ways of declaring them.

When you write String[] all variables you declare in that statement will be String arrays, likes here

String[] a,b;
a = new String[5];
b = new String[10];

However if you just write String the variables in the statement are defclared as Strings, but can be declared as arrays further more

String c[], d;
c = new String[5];
d = "hello";

Actually you can do that in the first example too, if you arrays of higher dimensions

Avoid declaring several variables, even more of different kind, on the same line...

To answer the original question, the first form is the (traditional) Java way, the second one is the C[++] way, kept mostly to avoid confusing programmers coming from these languages (at the time Java was designed). The second form is rarely used.
