I've just seen some demos from above, and audio processing works really fast. Is it written on JavaScript?

What's the difference between using processing.js?

The only programming language a browser understands today is JavaScript.

Anything else is provided by external programs running thru' plugins, like Flash & Java applets, for example.

Java is the main language used by Processing.

However there are some others like JavaScript, CoffeeScript, Python, Ruby, etc.

AFAIK, both most Java & 100% CoffeeScript can be compiled as Processing + JavaScript.

Thus, it can run as browser's native code w/o any plugins!

you're right.

however I wonder why processing.js is slower when rendering stuff like what i've posted above if they're both using javascript. am i missing some concept?

I believe Processing's API in general didn't have performance as its 1st concern!

Processing was made to make programming easier for non-programmer artists!

There are many powerful and speedier graphical APIs made exclusively for JavaScript like:

But the learning curve is a little steeper comparing to that of Processing.js!

Besides, Processing has good integration w/ other programming languages like Java, Python, Ruby, etc.

And you can develop your code offline, and then compile that to run online too!

Or the browser itself... That's the case with Web audio, WebGL and similar new technologies. That's why they are fast: the browser uses native code to do the processing (no pun intended!).
