Hi all,
I'm very excited to be making my foray into Processing. I'm sure I have a long road ahead to make something like this work, and I'm up to the task, but I thought I'd get your guidance on what to look at first.
So, let's assume some kind of bell curve or sinewave to represent this process. If you had a list of these hits, how could overlay these curves in a way that would show periods where several "effects" are at play? You could plot the exact point alone, or you could use a straight line almost like a Gantt chart to show this (indeed this is how most astrology programs do it), but I think it would be WAY more intuitive to do it with the wave graphs so you can more clearly see additive effects of transits.
Astrological transit data is extremely complex and in forecasting work you must consider several "kinds" simultaneously. Using an astrology program you can generate a series of "hits" or contacts. For example, Saturn crossing the point it was when you were born (this happens every 29 years). According to the theory, as a "hit" approaches 1 degree of exactness, any supposed effect begins to surface, reaches a climax, and then fades away. Depending on the bodies and types of transits considered, these influences could last years or just hours. Fortunately, all that information--enter/exact/leave--for a hit is generated by the software.
The available options in astrology software are SO bad. Here's a link that discusses some of the issues:

If you help me I'll predict your future! ;-)
I'm assuming other industries do this kind of thing all the time and that even though it may be "weird' to use astrology data, ultimately all you're doing is mapping trends and influences together to look for patterns, harmonies, etc. I just don't have the right vocabulary to look up these examples.
