using google translate & processing?

hey everyone,

i am trying to figure out right now if i can use google translate for some playing with text in processing for my student project. what i want to do is, take some text as input and translate it back and forth between different languages and then output the results after 'n'-steps. has anyone tried this already?

i would be really grateful for any hints!!

thank you so much!! what pixelnerve did was more or less my goal too, but i wanted to adapt it in another context.
now i'm already eager to try it out and i will post my project later if everything works fine.

good luck, and no need to worry,there is always somebody with a similar idea. the question is how you are going to take it further.

I have tried implementing example posted on the old discussion board ( http://processing.org/discourse/beta/num_1248889265.html) , following the instructions to download, Add the .jar file to my project and use the code below in my sketch.

I continually get the error "The function translate(String, Language, Language) does not exist."

Are there any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong? Thanks for your help. I am looking forward to getting this functionality working on my project.

My code:

import com.google.api.translate.Language;

import com.google.api.translate.Translate;

try {

String translatedText = Translate.translate("Bonjour le monde", Language.FRENCH, Language.ENGLISH);

println(translatedText);

} catch (Exception ex) {

ex.printStackTrace();

}

Google Translate API has been updated and now is a paid service.

You can find all the information including a updated sample code from this site:

I think the library is free again, but I'm having a new problem just getting started. When I run the hello world example as is:

import com.google.api.translate.Language;

import com.google.api.translate.Translate;

try {

String translatedText = Translate.translate("Bonjour le monde", Language.FRENCH, Language.ENGLISH);

println(translatedText);

} catch (Exception ex) {

ex.printStackTrace();

}

I get the error that translate(string, Language, Language) does not exist. I've imported the library into the sketch correctly, so other than that I'm confused. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Okay, realized the paid part is my problem. Never mind, any free options out there?
