Unable to unzip.

in General Discussion  •  Other  •  2 years ago
Hello

I have a strange problem. I'm unable to unzip the downloaded processing zip file.
The OSX version is working but the Windows version (with Java) isn't.
I get an error message (invalid file) every time I try to unzip it.

I downloaded it with different browsers on different computers with different browsers and different unzip applications.
Always the same error. This also happens with arduino zip files btw.
But every other zip archive is working fine.

I'm really clueless what the problem might be.

Any suggestions?

Strange, as you already tried various environments. Ensure you download the file with right-click + Save target of link (or equivalent for the chosen browser), not by a simple left click.

I tried it again as I'm at home now. Both zip files processing and arduino are working fine.
So it seems to have been a problem with the Internet at work.
I guess I have to thank our IT guy or the firewall...

I'm still a little curious why I had the problem, but I consider it solved.

At one time, I saw IE-using people having trouble with zip files being unzipped on the fly because they were served as compressed data and the browser thought it should uncompress it (like when it receives a page compressed on the fly by the server to reduce bandwidth). So they received eg. a .doc file (which was in the archive) but still with a .zip extension and the archive name! Perhaps you had a similar issue. But I am not sure what is in the received file when the zip holds several files.
