Ubuntu is logging me out when i'm trying to run program in processing

Hi!

I've a problem with processing. I've installed it about month ago and everything used to be ok, but today i've tried to run some script in processing, and when i've clicked the "run" button, ubuntu logged me out. Can anyone help me?

is it an opengl script?

(my) general thoughts are that it's killing the x session. try disabling 3d desktop effects. look in the X logs for any additional info - /var/logs/X*

If you are comfortable with Linux and like Ubuntu you will like Debian a whole lot more.

Also try to

ctr+alt f1

run startx

then run processing from your new terminal by running its location

then run the sketch

if it works you will rule out a lot of things.

You may try to disable Compiz. Go to Preferences > Appearance > Visual Effects and choose None.

Also like he said uninstall compiz in fact just get ride of that whole damn desktop thing you will never imagine how fast your computer goes with out it.

Same happens in OpenSolaris b134. Disable Compiz, and all is well. Thanks for the tip!

i have the same problem.

i have ubuntustudio, and i've done the distro upgrade (first ubuntu and then ubuntustudio, no nativly ubuntustudio)

for me it's a bit problem because i use a lot compiz..

what can i do? some advice? mayebe it is only some compitz component?

but in every system compitz is in conflict with processing.org or there are some good combination?

There are many alternatives to managing your virtual desktops. Compiz doesn't play nice and hasn't for some time. Look up linux window managers

on google.

http://fluxbox.org/ is a good example and you can switch between it and Compiz with out changing anything.

You can normally turn down the level of eye candy, I was never very keen on the Gnome desktop, its too quirky for me ( Nautilus integration to the desktop is a real pain, if you do set up fluxbox make sure to prevent desktop integration when calling Nautilus from fluxbox).

With the KDE desktop I have found that if you put settings display / appearance / fine settings at slow computer, and low resolution screen, then it is pretty well behaved.

However I too prefer Fluxbox ( Blood-Integration is a really cool style or use Linther Brushed to pretend you've got a Mac) , and run Conky to monitor resources. Handy when running the cfdg program, which can go a bit awol writing temp files to disk.
