Hi all,

hope someone can help me.

I would like to add to my sketchbook the follower count of any organisation on twitter. Does anybody know an easy way? I couldn't find the correct function/code.

Using twitter4j it would look like:

In the sketchbook folder? As a text file?
Or in the sketch? Using text(), probably...

I still have this in my script

text("13.287" + " Follower", width/2, height/2);

But I wouldn't type the value "13.287" for follower count. Instead of I want to establish the relation between text() and void getFollowerCount, to display the follower count automatically.

text(getFollowCount() + " Followers", width / 2, height / 2);

Won't work if getFollowCount() of type void, but then again, a function starting with get and returning nothing would be strange...

Hmm... I already did that before, but it doesn't work...

"The function getFollowCount() does not exist"

Ah, I see, it in the above code... It was just some demo code (fetchFollowersCount or showFollowersCount would have been better names, but then again, it is quick show and tell code), you have to adapt it:

int getFolowersCount()
{
try {
String user = "JerrySeinfeld";
targetUser = twitter.showUser(user);
return targetUser.getFollowersCount();
}
catch(TwitterException e) {
println("getFolowersCount: " + e + " Status code: " + e.getStatusCode());
return -1; // Give non-nonsensical value to indicate an error
}
}

You can also take the account name as an input to the function:

int getFolowersCount(String account)
{
try {
User targetUser = twitter.showUser(account);
return targetUser.getFollowersCount();
}
catch(TwitterException e) {
println("getFolowersCount: " + e + " Status code: " + e.getStatusCode());
return -1; // Give non-nonsensical value to indicate an error
}
}

so you can do:

println(getFolowersCount("akira"));
println(getFolowersCount("hall"));

Thanks for your support guys... I'm workin since 3 weeks with processing and I simply fell in love. Therefore, I wanna learn more about Processing and Social Media API. Next, I would like to map the location of my twitter followers. Can someone provide me/teach me?

Search the forum for twitter examples, there are plenty. Also look in java doc for twitter4j and also code examples from them, here and here. You can get everything from there. It may help also look at twitter API in their developers site. And of course post your doubts here :)

The basic serach is as above, you just need to find some method called some thing like "getUserLocation()" or close to

this, search the java doc... Here, just found this:

probably will do it...
