I'm a master student of Transportation Science. Recently there has been a lot of beautiful transportation/transit patterns visualized, but I have trouble finding a tutorial on it. some examples of these visualizations are:

I have GPS log of buses for a period of about 2 months. the goal is to create an animation of these data, showing dispatch and density patterns, created on top of the map of bus routes. I think I'm a bit more advanced than beginner( read Getting Started with Processing), but maybe lack design experience. I know how to put the map on background and read gps data on top of it, but it's way uglier than these visualization!
it would be great if somebody could help me get started!:)
