This time I archived the app file, transferred it, unarchived it, and now it's working on the client computer. In fact, I exported it to Linux and transferred and ran it on an Ubuntu machine, and it's working there as well. So this was some silliness in the Mac OS. Some observations:
1.
phi.lh and
cedrickiefer, thank you for your patience and kindness. Your trying to help this noob out attests to your greatness as humans.
2. Processing rocks. OK, so it is a limited Java syntax and container subset, but you give me enough of what I need to do some really cool stuff.
3. I've been looking for this kind of environment for a while. I have two brilliant kids, one now in an art school that apparently has figured out
that
Processing should be in the curriculum, and this is the best coding system that I've come across to teach programming concepts in a while. So Processing designers, hats off to you.
4. But, should anyone think (like I did when first demonstrated Processing) that this is coding light, think again. If you need to get something multimedia done, this is a well specified, well constructed, well designed platform. I started out today with no knowledge of Processing, and ended it with souping up a solution from another platform plus running up the street to get a Kinect at Best Buy just to "hack" that piece of hardware (successfully) with Processing. Now my younger daughter wants
to learn how to code, and I have a system that will allow me to innovate some engineering ideas. Hats off again.
Bottom line: the patience of those trying to help me out was unusual and remarkable, and the features offered in this innovative platform are going to keep my attention here for a while. Your "ecosystem" is something special. Hats off.
