Hi,

Can anyone inform me why printing text to the screen is not working in GLGraphics?

I was looking at a previous version of the library which seemed to have GLFont functionality: -

However the GLFont class doesn't seem to exist anymore.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. .

Btw: I am rendering the scene via a GLModel

Hi, yes the GLFont was present in earlier versions of GLGraphics. I originally thought that it was faster than the built-in Font class, but after some testing I realized it wasn't so I removed it.

You can still use Font objects with GLGraphics, although they are not very fast. For rendering large amounts of text quickly with GLGraphics, you could use this technique.

Hi andres, thanks for coming back to me . .

After a little a testing I seem to have worked out a bit more of what was going on.

Previously I was drawing the text inside the beginGL()/endGL() of the GLModel render, which was rotating the text with my shape out of view (putting it before fixed the issue) :)

Also, it appears that when using the pure OpenGL object by assigning GL gl = renderer.gl; inside beginGL()/endGL(); using the gl.glPolygonMode( gl.GL_FRONT_AND_BACK, gl.GL_LINE ); and gl.glPolygonMode( gl.GL_FRONT_AND_BACK, gl.GL_FILL ); for wireframe on and off was scrambling the text (I seem to remember reading in a post you stating that this needs to be done with drawing a line cage).

Finally, attempting to use textMode(SCREEN) showed the text but did not display the GLModel on screen, which doesn’t matter as for some reason the text didn’t seem to look better with this on or off. .

Slight correction: -

Calling gl.glPolygonMode( gl.GL_FRONT_AND_BACK, gl.GL_FILL) for wireframe off does not scramble text, but calling gl.glPolygonMode( gl.GL_FRONT_AND_BACK, gl.GL_LINE) does.
Actaully, calling the former appears to smooth the object a little (unless it's just my eyes :)).
I'm calling gl.glHint (gl.GL_LINE_SMOOTH_HINT, gl.GL_NICEST) and then gl.glEnable (gl.GL_LINE_SMOOTH) for smoothing too.

All the calls you mention would affect the rendering of GLModel objects, since they are entirely handled by OpenGL. I haven't tried the effects of the functions you mention, however. GLGraphics sets some GL parameters when rendering GLModels, so changing the GL state manually might have unexpected consequences.

Thanks for the detailed post.

I ran into a similar error today by using Processing's native " text()" function and GLGraphics. I'm not sure if it has to do with the latest version of Processing.

The error is easy to replicate, simply create a new sketch using " size(400, 400, GLConstants.GLGRAPHICS);" and try putting " text("hello",0,0);" into the draw function. Or try the example above ( this technique).

I get the following error: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError:

Any suggestions?

Ah Ha! I missed the boat, Andres has updated the GLGraphics library to work with the newest version of Processing.
