Text in an image

Hi all,

I've looked around online and couldn't yet find a good solution for what I'm trying to do.

I have an image that I'd like to add some text to. However, I don't just want it on top - I'd like to blend it into the image.

I'd also like to see if I can add some texture to the text to make it more smooth and less like just computer text.

What I'm going after is something similar to the text in some of Jasper John's paintings ( http://www.tfaoi.com/cm/1cm/1cm288.jpg)

Would anyone have some advice or be able to point me into a good direction?

Have you looked into pixels and its derivatives?

Yes, I have - I'm using that for the original altered image.

But, I think my question may be a bit loaded. In fact, I think it's a few different questions.

1) I'd like to make the text that I put on the screen part of the new image (instead of it always being on top).

2) As I make it part of the image, I would like to blend it into the image instead of just putting it straight on

and

3) I need to figure out how to make some 'brushes' that would be good to blend other colors over it all.

So, actually - lots of research to do!
