If you want full-color rather than anaglyphic... (with active glasses)

for windows entertainment 3d (e.g., the kind now getting used by game companies), directx is the way to go. but for quadro-based opengl, then using the nvidia stereo driver for opengl is the way. You can access opengl from Processing, you might want to check the forums on http://developer.nvidia.com/ for mroe details on that (I never used it, but medical and oil and other workstation users do use quadro 3d stereo). There may have already been people who have used fuill-color stereo with JOGL (Java OpenGL) which should also work with processing.

First of all, thanks for the replies.

My hope was to find something already implented in Processing.

How nowadays ca we think not have stereoscopic vision? I'm not talking about anaglyph vision, sorry cedrickefeer (but thanks for the suggestion). But i'm talking about native API function that let me render a scene to 3d tvs or shutterglasses projector enabled.

This means, unfortunalty i will have to do it by my own, and this will take me a lot of time.

If you have ideas, please...share! :)

i've used quadro before and that could be done rendering to both output graphics ports. each one is processed independently and synched. if you're connecting to a tv usually only one port is used. the tv does the hard work for you (passive stereo)

my example shows anaglyph method so anyone can experience 3d stereo without having a thousand dollar gadget but i can tell you that it was tested on 3d tv before with passive stereo with quite good results.
The only difference was on the shader itself. it could do vertical/horizontal parallax (full color) or color mixing for anaglyphs. that is done before sending to the output.

as for the stereo library i can't say much as i do not know it, but check it out. it probably does the same.

in your case you might need other systems as PhD. im sure you'll figure it out on your own.

There are standardized functions for entertainment -- it's called "just use DirectX and the driver will do the 3D" -- the market is potentially huge

For OpenGL and Quadro (and... let me guess... linux?), the actual market is miniscule. Which is why you need to either be a Big Engineering Corp (e.g., Dassault) or yes, it's DiY. Put that PhD to use :)

Worked for me (OSX 10.6.5), but I had to change the directory structure.  I put in a ticket: https://github.com/angusforbes/stereo/issues#issue/2  that describes the issue and how you would fix it.

works good. I'm repeating i'm very new to processing but as far as i understand, the function stereo is called to time to rendere the scene on both the two side. Inside the Quads class there are some direct OpenGl calls on the GL object.

If i try to render a bos(100) for example before the right render and before the left render, the final image is not stereo.
Also i'm intersted importing all the simple example shown in the 3d tutorials. For example I'v imported the rotating toroids, and another time rendering it before thew stereo left rendering and before the right but i can see two images translated and not in stereo.

What am I doing wrong?

have you got some examples for me to work on?

The library render as i wuold expect before on the left buffer and then to right.I run the Quad example and it works fine.
This is achieved using the gl object.

This means i have to rewrite by my own all the existing libraries to be used with stereoscopy?
How can i let more libraries working together on the gl object? For example the GLGraphics lib, or others to import a 3DS Max mesh.


Are there any possible solution?

To make entire scene stereo, you would need to place your code in the render() function.  Or you could place it before stereo.right() and stereo.left(), but before stereo.end().

but:

1) try to render a simple box(100) on left and right. Can you see it in 3d? I cannot.

2) if for example i implement the GLGraphics library it does the same as this 3d library:

The stereo library is being written to gl.  Box() is not draw with gl.  I think you'd have to break out the pure OpenGL, which is done in Quad.

I don't believe you can run both libraries at the same time, as they both initiate themselves as the controlling environment.

One way to implement stereo in a incorrect but easy way would be to loop through and change the glColorMask.

Here is one way I do it with PeasyCam and glColorMask.  I'd still like to improve it, as it's not proper (I think it's called toe-in method).

I'm wondering if anyone has been able to use processing for real-time stereo video.  Is anyone aware of this and what should I look into to explore this as an option?
