Thats disheartening.

I am aware that on Firefox you won't get more then 1 FPS! and that on Safari its clunky. It works well on Chrome and Opera. I tested it on Debian and OSX( I don't have a windows box = /)

I can't imagine that it would slow your computer down in any way it should be locked in the browsers sandbox. I would like to know what it was that made it run so badly in Firefox and Safari. It seemed to me that it was specific to the browsers not the code itself.

What system and browser are you using?

It was bugging me so I rechecked it seems to be working every where HTML5 is working. Firefox is still on the fail end. According to html5 test it should support canvas element correctly but since I can't find anything wrong with my sketch ::shrug:: Ill let it catch up .

I tried it with Windows XP using FireFox 3.6.8

OK the frame was very low but was definitely better than 1 FPS you quoted. I did not experience problems controlling my computer although FireFox was less responsive.

I am tempted to think that there is something with the way that FireFox is doing garbage collection. Its interesting that Firefox shares the total amount of its available ram across tabs.

yes i was using firefox as well.
i was wondering where the problems come from as your sketch doesnt seem to be really complex. i couldnt take a look at the source though because it was slowing down ff that it was already hard to close it again

You can see it running as just a regular Java app.

There is a little bit of math going on with the particles being attracted to each other and with the collisions. That may be where the slow down occurs.

Its hard to figure out because the debug tools for JavaScript in Firefox are not so fantastic. Like you said the banner really locks things up to much to do anything useful.
