Ok all,

I have been getting help from this forum to learn processing, it's about time i try to give something back.

Android and processing have been a heavy learning curve... but i still do a lot of work in DOS (believe it or not..) so the command line is not a foreign concept.

I have been using the information here to export my packages..... I found myself doing the same command over and over.

Sooooooo. BATCH FILE! yaaayyy!

anyway,

Copy the below code and save it as .bat

This batch file is set up to run in the sketch directory.

Export Android Project in Processing.
Move or copy the batch file into your sketch directory.
Run the batch and follow the on-screen prompts.

Your signed APK should end up in anrdoid\SignedAPK

Suggestions? Let me know and i can see about adding functions....menu options, extra features... whatever. I will give it a go.

*Edit - Still playing with the program. Just figured out that it doesn't like spaces in the name of the final output. I think that's a function of the zipalign program so i can't do much about it but warn everyone.. I just use underscores as spaces much like you have to do for the sketch folders......

*Edit 2 - update code to run from sketch directory instead of android directory. Easier if you need to redo the export from processing.

Hi,

The idea is good, but myself wanted to make something familiar. And that is, compiling the sourcecode (without -obfusilate, and with compression level 1 or 0) and then signing it (no zipallign afterwards), then install it to my android device via ADB, then run the application.
The reason i want to change certain compile options is to get a speed gain. But i think that the gain is not so high i really wanted to.

Another reason i want to compile myself is because i want to have breakpoints in the code, so that i can see in the PDE what the values are from variables. A bit like live coding.

This would be such options. I have not done it enough to to know all of the options or why they would be utilized, but i perfectly will to try and make menu options for the common choices that people will use when making an APK to fit their project.

I could have a one click (and type name) compile or a full blown option set to ADB push afterwards....

Just need to kow what people would want and i can try to implement it into the batch.

Perhaps you could create a Processing Tool out of this, or even submit it to the Android export process.

Calsign,

wouldn't even know where to start to convert this into processing tool or manipulate command line from processing. I would be willing to get it an honest effort if you think it is doable. You are aware of my general knowledge by now with all the help you have given me on my android app. Let me know if you think it's do-able and give me an idea where to start reading and it can be the next project on the list.

Not even sure how to submit it to the export process...... or what that is really.......

Well. I'm clearly not as experienced in batch files as you are, but you are capable of executing that file from... say... a Java application? I definitely think it would be possible. In fact, it would only be a couple of lines of code, bundled with your batch file. Take a look at the Eclipse Processing Tool Template and the related tutorials...

Working on this at the moment but the eclipse processing tutorials are now next on my stuff to learn list.

My programming experience consists of:

A TI-83 calculator in high school to learn QBASIC from the example programs in the math book.....

Arduino IDE

Processing IDE

Lots of google searchs.......

The only reason i know dos/batch files is my exposure to DOS at work.

Batches aren't hard at all.

ECHO is almost the same as print

call is how you execute an exe from within a batch and keep the batch going after it's completion

set /p means "prompt the user and store response in this variable"

and %myVariable% is just a call to a variable, of any type, that was set previously

beyond that the lines are just whatever you would type in at the command line

In the command lines static 640x480 window, it gets hard to read the white text if it's all in a tight area.

I've almost got it working, i get a unsigned.apk file made, but for some reason nothing appears in my SignedAPK folder?

the command prompt doesn't moan about any errors?

so am not sure why it doesn't work?

you put the batch file in the folder with the actual sketch folder as per the instructions? it has to be there because all of the commands work with relative paths

Hey I just tested it and builds the signed apk sucessfully but It won't install in my phone, al the steps happened succesfully and i got the signed apk in the folder... But it doesn't install in any device, it only works if I run it from scratch on the connected device. Can you help me ? Thanks

Perhaps your device won't allow the installation of applications from non-Google Play sources. You can enable this in Settings.

Ditto, Allow unknown sources is the first thing i thought of for this.
