Sending OSC to trigger an oscillator in Pure Data, how do i do it? Help!

I'm quite new to processing and pure data (pd) at the moment.

Currently I have pd receiving OSC messages on port 5001 from Processing, the problem is is that i can't seem to make the messages trigger an oscillator, or anything for that matter.

What is the problem? I'm a bit unfamiliar with the OSC protocol in general, is it a problem with the messages I'm sending in Processing or is it a pd problem?

I sometimes get an error in pd saying "error; trigger can only convert 's' to 'b' or 'a'". I'm just so confused!

what is the type of messages you are sending to pd ? float ? bang ? string
You could post the osc part of processing sketch, and the canvas of pd.
If the osc packet is well made, it should be ok .

i'll post the OSC part of the code in processing;

this is what is in the 'void setup()' section of code relating to OSC;

oscP5 = new OscP5(this,5001);

myRemoteLocation = new NetAddress("127.0.0.1",5001);

and this is what is in the 'void oscEvent' section of the code;

void oscEvent(OscMessage theOscMessage)

{

// get the first value as an integer

int firstValue = theOscMessage.get(0).intValue();

// get the second value as a float

float secondValue = theOscMessage.get(1).floatValue();

// get the third value as a string

it seems that you received osc datas in processing ? Processing doesn't seem to send osc messages here.

ahh yeah sorry, i forgot to include that bit of code

it's basically this

OscMessage myMessage = new OscMessage("/test");

myMessage.add(123);

myMessage.add(12.34);

myMessage.add("some text!");

x += vx;

y += vy;

if (x + diameter > width) {

x = width - diameter;

vx *= friction;

oscP5.send(myMessage, myRemoteLocation);

}

else if (x - diameter < 0) {

x = diameter;

vx *= friction;

oscP5.send(myMessage, myRemoteLocation);

}

if (y + diameter > height) {

y = height - diameter;

vy *= friction;

oscP5.send(myMessage, myRemoteLocation);

basically the app i've made is two bouncing balls and the balls send OSC messages everytime they hit the sides of the window, does that make sense?

The messages are sent fine, but trying to get them to trigger anything in pd has so far been fruitless. Any more help would be amazing thanks so much!!
