I want my program to know when im above and under a line with changeing slope

if you look at the image. I wan't it to know when i hold the mouse under the line in all the gray area

how would i go around and do this?

Let say that the line's equation is y = ax + b.

Then test :

if (mouseY > a * mouseX + b) {

// Grey area

} else {

// White area

}
