Scalable canvas sizes?

Howdy, New to processing. I'm building some drawing tools and the resolutions I'm doing this for are going to be high (ideally 18000,18000) but obviously I run into snags with the work environment. Is there a simple way to scale the working environment so I can work with such a large canvas? aka a zoom feature?

Yes, but you have to code it manually...
And you might have memory issues before that, your canvas will eat something like 1GB, a bit big for desktop Java, I fear. Unless, perhaps, you are using 64bit JVM.
Classical drawing programs like Photoshop solved this by loading the image by portions (only the displayed/zoomed part), which isn't simple either.

What do you want to do with so huge resolution ?

Either you can manage your data in lower resolution, either you should look to C++.

If what you want is have a canvas larger than the screen you might want to check out peasycam or the zoomPan package of the gicentre utils, and you could code your program so the working is done on a regular canvas and when you want to save the file you scale things up (if you're using vectors, you should be ok!)

I've been doing alot of drawing in photoshop and printing them as 60x60 prints (18000x18000). I've just gotten bored of photoshops drawing tools and I've figured I want to build my own. It'd also allow me to integrate some other stuff I am really interested in from computer science.

I might try vector stuff, but I'm more interested in programming a raster tool, then playing with it, then importing it into photoshop to I can mix it with some stuff from blender, and make the whole thing a big 3D anaglyph.
C++ is sounding like it's where I need to be, but I might wade around in the shallows for a bit and get my bearings, as I haven't done any programming since high school.
