For a short text (say less than 128 chars), you can use the good old GET method: call an URL on the server, and pass the text as a parameter: http://www.example.com/store/handler.php?t=This+is+a+short+text%21
You have to escape the chars...

as an update:

I'm using the following method to write a three line text file to my sketch folder at the moment. Would the easiest thing would be to find how to save that text file to the web server?

ok, so I've got round this issue by using the post to web library and a .png post. it all works fine whilst in processing itself, but when I write an applet from this it won't run. Can anyone give me some pointers on what I need to fix?

I think you need to sign the applet to get around security access issues... check the Wiki on how to do that, post back if you have problems (or success!)

yes I did try signing it, but the applet still wouldn't run, kinda odd...

Perhaps you forgot to upload the core.jar

I'm trying to run the applet straight from the export folder on my desktop, it has both core.jar and postToWeb.jar in the same directory at the moment.

Interestingly the index.html file produced in the export works fine, right up until it sends an output .png to my server. It skips this.
     
I thought this must be a signing issue, so I signed the .jar files. After re-exporting the applet and reopening index.html, the output .png function now works. A little .png file appears on my server at the end of the applet cycle.

However a part of the applet where you previously could use the keyboard to enter text now appears to be disabled. typing doesn't create any text where it should.

I've spent all day fiddling and not getting anywhere fast :(
