RXTX version mismatch on a Macbook pro -- nothing seems to solve this problem

Hello All --

I'm running Processing 1.5.1 on a Macbook Pro running 10.6.7

I've got a program that does a lot of serial communication to an arduino and my program freezes often while communicating. When I run the app without the serial comunicaiton it runs fine, so I suspect a problem with the serial communication.

I also get this warning, which seems related:

WARNING: RXTX Version mismatch

Jar version = RXTX-2.2pre1

native lib Version = RXTX-2.2pre2

I've tried to fix this a few ways:

I updated my version of java.

I searched for and remove all versions of rxtxcomm.jar and other related files as mentioned here and found nothing beyond what I should have.

I downloaded fresh 2.2pre2 bins from here, and I've put rxtxcomm.jar and librxtxSerial.jnilib in /Library/Java/Extensions

This did not solve the problem.

I tried copying rxtxcomm and librxtxserial from the Processing application folder and pasting them in /Library/Java.Extensions

This also did not solve the problem.

I've tried putting the same new binaries in both Processing application folder and the Java folder.

No change.

I tried deleting the same two files from /Java/Extensions and that had no effect, I still get the warning and the problem.

I've searched around for a solution and nothing I find is very helpful.

Can anyone please tell me what I'm missing here?

hi,

I don't know if this will solve your problem--and maybe it's not even advisable--but I got rid of the warning by putting in the same version jnilib as the jar:

0. Download and unzip rxtx-2.2pre1-bins.zip somewhere.

1. Open a terminal (to find Terminal open a Finder window then hit command-shift-U). In the following "$" is just my terminal prompt; could be something else in your case.

2. On the command line type "cd " (note the space) then drag your Processing application icon onto the terminal window. This automatically will put the right path in for you.

3. Find out where any "rxtx" stuff is:

$ find . -iname "*rxtx*"

./Contents/Resources/Java/modes/java/libraries/serial/library/linux32/librxtxSerial.so

./Contents/Resources/Java/modes/java/libraries/serial/library/linux64/librxtxSerial.so

./Contents/Resources/Java/modes/java/libraries/serial/library/macosx/librxtxSerial.jnilib

./Contents/Resources/Java/modes/java/libraries/serial/library/RXTXcomm.jar

./Contents/Resources/Java/modes/java/libraries/serial/library/windows32/rxtxSerial.dll

./Contents/Resources/Java/modes/java/libraries/serial/library/windows64/rxtxSerial.dll

4. cd Contents/Resources/Java/modes/java/libraries/serial/library/macosx

5. List out what's there; should be:

$ ls

librxtxSerial.jnilib

6. Move (save, just in case) the jnilib 2.2pre2 to your home directory do: mv librxtxSerial.jnilib ~

7. Copy over the 2.2pre1 one you downloaded. Type "cp " then drag the new one over (in the unzipped folder, rxtx-2.2pre1-bins/mac-10.5/librxtxSerial.jnilib)

I think that's it. It got rid of the warning for me (although I still have an error which I think is related to rxtx).

On http://rxtx.qbang.org/wiki/index.php/Download they actually mention " The 2.2pre2 bins contain the 2.2pre1 jar file and the 2.2pre2 native lib which causes a mismatch warning" so maybe rxtx NEEDS the mismatched files for this specific build. I don't know; give it a shot.

as i just posted in another thread - dont use the RXTXcomm.jar and librxtxserial.jinlib thats with processing. copy the versions that are in your arduino folder under (contents/resources/java) from arudino -22 they are dated 24th dec and are 2.1-7 - ensure these versions are in the processing folder , the arduino folder you just copied them from (obviously they will be the right ones) and under macintosh hd/library/java/extensions

rerun and they will match

if not post back.
