all I wanted to do was get a gif to loop and display when i ran my program. I didnt have the right syntax in draw and setup, but ive solved the problem. Basic syntax for where the code should go (just in case someone wants to know)...

import gifAnimation.*;
Gif filename;

void setup(){
filename = new Gif(this, "filename.gif");
}

void draw(){
image(filename,0,0);
}
