Hey everyone,

Don't know how active this forum is but I was wondering if Ashkenaz was still maintaining ruby-processing? Or if anyone had experience getting it to work on Windows Vista without any trickery. Basically I can run

'jruby -S rp5 live foo.rb'

but thats about it. rp5 any other option fails with

'runner.rb:131:in `spin_up': No such file or directory - cannot execute (Errno::ENOENT)'

I'm also having trouble setting up ruby-processing in an Netbeans environment so if anyone could help with that or direct me to some documentation that would be great. (Can't seem to call ruby-processing using jar import or get the gem to work). Last time I tried using Processing it seemed like it all just "worked". Does anybody have an idea of whats going on or can direct me to some help? Thanks a lot.

System: Windows Vista 32bit

Jruby: 1.5.3

Windows caveats

Gem install didn’t seem to create environment variable RP5_ROOT upon which ruby-processing depends. Adding this environment variable to the path of the gem seemed to do the trick. If you’re getting some errors where you don’t know whats going on this might be the issue.

I copied the above from github, is it any use?

Also in the rp5 file (below which is executable on linux and presumably mac) the paths don't look right for windows (you could experiment/adjust them) then you might be able to rp5 run sketch.rb perhaps? Rather than jruby rp5 etc.

Can the ruby interpreter deal with /../ path on Windows? I just read that it should cope with / as a file separator (but does it work on relative paths?).

I don't have access to Windows anymore so can't experiment with Windows. It is all Bill Gates fault, dates back to the DOS era.

May'be it is a red-herring but there is some discussion about cross platform path issues here...

Hmmmm, I actually entered the "Windows Caveats" into the wiki myself a few days ago when it wasn't working at all :p

However, it seems as if a lot of the ENV variables aren't populated correctly on Windows Vista when doing the gem install (via Netbeans or command line). Anyways, I've gotten rp5 to run without jruby -S anymore (but I still have to use the --jruby flag as the internal jruby bundled with the gem doesn't seem to be functioning correctly). I'm not sure if the path thing is the issue but I'll be sure to look into it. If you're interested, ruby-processing seems to hiccup here but I haven't had enough time to learn the gem's structure enough to figure out why. Should there be some logic here for to check if jruby is the default ruby install and not have to recall the script if so? Anyways, thanks for your help. This code is taken from main runner.rb in gem folder.

Sorry that I hadn't realized it was you that added the Windows caveats. When I first started using ruby-processing there were general caveats about setting the RP5_HOME environmental variable (it used to be a general thing, I can remember needing to set it in linux). I've just experimented with the latest jruby-complete.jar (on linux) and doesn't seem to be any problem using that.
