This is a really unique and rare opportunity for an artist. DXARTS is an interdisciplinary research center at the University of Washington. It has faculty appointments from Music, Art, Dance, as well as strong affiliations with Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Both DXARTS and the university have incredible resources. A successful applicant will have unlimited access to state of the art fabrication, sound, and video equipment, as well as several amazing labs and various studio spaces.

The Center for Digital Arts and Experimental Media at the University of Washington would like to invite applications from suitably qualified individuals for a one year (with possibility of renewal) Research Associate position in Mechatronic Art. This unusual role will be based at DXARTS’ off campus warehouse. Your role will be to teach labs and workshops incorporating skills in fabrication, electronics, microcontrollers, sensors and mechanics. You will also provide research support to students and faculty in the mechatronics subject area at DXARTS. You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of DXARTS' state of the art studio facilities, which includes a wood shop, machine shop, laser cutter, CNC machines, electronics laboratory, classroom and flexible space.

Successful applicants should be practicing artists with national or international experience in the field. His/her principle area of practice should be broadly in the area of mechatronic art. 

The following skills are highly desirable:

• rapid prototyping / digital fabrication
• interactive installation
• computer vision
• artificial intelligence
• algorithmic video
• internet art
• telematics

Masters degree, equivalent, or higher required. Application must include: CV, artist statement, statement on pedagogy, and a portfolio of current professional creative work and research.
