Recognize a draw (cirlce, square ... etc)

Hi,

I would write some code that can recognize some shapes, drew by the users, and turn to a well-shaped draw

For example when I define a raw circle, it recognize it as a circle and draw a perfect one for me ... and so one with other shapes.

Its difficoult? any of you ever do that?

Give me some advice please

your question is pretty vague. do you mean a pic of a physical drawing (check out openCV)? or a gesture recognition?

Difficult, probably, it can be hard to distinguish a squarish circle from a rounded rectangle...
Never done that, but I saw some programs (in Flash) doing that, eg. when the user draws a shape, and it turns to a base shape (circle, rectangle, triangle...) then move according to a physics engine. So it can be done.

distinguish a squarish circle from a rounded rectangle could be a problem indeed ...

would you say that the algorithm could be something like:

get center of your draw

calculate the distance between the center and some points(sampled) of your draw

if this distance is quite similar for every point -> circle

else -> square

I maybe need the triangle also :D
