Realtime Ray tracing on Processing

I have been interested in ray tracing vs rasterization in realtime environments.

I know that Processing rocks; so someone muse have done something like that with it.

Here are a few links of people doing some great stuff with processing.

That first link was awesome. Made me feel smart enough to think I am to dumb to get it. I feel much closer now to being confused and not completely lost. What a scattered discipline.

I doubt we can do real time ray-tracing, even less in Java! even with modern computers. Ray-tracing is very time-consuming, and unless you want to render very small images, you won't be able to generate 24 images per second.
OpenGL can do that, but that's not really ray-tracing, only a good simulation.

I think a real-time ray tracing solution could be possible in processing, but you'd have to offload much of the work to your graphics card with shader programming. Check this link out:

Using GPU as powerful "secondary" processor is indeed a good idea, and more and more used.
Note that they are not yet real time (but the article is 3 years old...): they achieve 12-18 frames per second with some tricks (using shaders, which are not real ray-tracing, if I am not mistaken).
And doing such performance is probably beyond the average Processing hacker. Perhaps a super-hacker will package that in a library?
