Reading Joysticks

How can I read the values from a joystick? I want to be able to read, and display the X and Y position, as well as the button states.

The Joystick works fine with the computer, with all necessary drivers.

Is there a library to read joysticks?

Well, you know, you can type something like java joystick in Google or equivalent, and probably get some results...
I did and found some libraries in the first page, like http://sourceforge.net/projects/javajoystick/ (not much doc? perhaps in download) or http://www.hardcode.de/jxinput/ The latter seems promising, at least they have some doc!

Well, I tried Google for about an hour before I came here.

I haven't really ever programmed in java, so I really need examples as well as the library.

I am having issues getting Processing to find libraries... Where do I place the libraries for it to find them when I #include them (maybe a different term in java).

I downloaded the hardcode jxinput, but I need to know where to put it, and a little example to get me started.

If you need it only in one sketch, you can just drop the jar file on the PDE window displaying your sketch. It will copy it in the code folder of the sketch folder.
You don't #include libraries, you have to use the import keyword to get packages into scope.

If you need the library in more than one sketch, you can put it at <sketchbook folder>/libraries/<lib name>/library/<lib name>.jar, as instructed.

Okay, so now it finds the library. Now how do I use it? I haven't even figure out how to display text yet.

I can read 5 pages of documentation, but if there aren't any examples, it's worthless to me. Please post an example for me, or point me to one.

I do understand programming in general, and am fairly good at variations of BASIC and C/C++, but for some reason I am having a really hard time getting anything to work (except for the examples included with the software).

Indeed, having this kind of JavaDoc is useful, but dry: we rarely know where or how to test it.
Alas, I don't have a joystick, so I can't experiment with the device.
But having some experience with open source projects, I navigated to http://drts.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/drts/projects/jxinput/java/de/hardcode/jxinput/test/JXInputTestDialog.java?revision=1.3&view=markup
Look also at the other files in the folder http://drts.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/drts/projects/jxinput/java/de/hardcode/jxinput/test/
