random number coding help please!

Hello

Would someone please help me understand how to do this?:

I'm following the tutorial but can't even make the first image (one line of dots).

Without your code I can't say what exactly is going on. It's not really the type of tutorial you can just do "step by step". Instead, its more of a tutorial where you download the finished product and go through it with the author. There are a number of libraries that he is using.

Did you download the finished product?

Yes, I downloaded the finished product, but when I try to Play it, it gives me an error: " Cannot find a class or type named "Set""

In " SimpleSpreadsheetManager" tab, highlighting:

Set<String> tags = le.getCustomElements().getTags();

Does this mean a String is missing or something, perhaps? I remember reading about Strings in Processing 'Data' Tutorial.

By the way, thank you for pointing out that his page is not a step by step tutorial! I totally had thought it was!!!

I guess I should stick with working with the finished product, because the image I want to create is the finished one, anyway!

You're gonna find many codes, tutorials and examples that are broken

due to changes of policy taken by current Processing developers.

A very common 1 you already found out now -> Processing stopped importing many bundled Java libraries!

The class Set belongs to a vast library, which is -> java.util.*

To make class Set and many other Collections work in Processing 2+, just use -> import java.util.*;

Otherwise, it's easier to study using previous stable version -> Processing 1.5.1.

Thanks!! What an awesome trick!

The error is gone and I got the final image!

Super exciting moment!

Now I'm trying to use my data instead of the author's to make the image.

This is the author's:

The author wrote " The ‘User’ and ‘Tweet’ columns are not necessary; you just need to have a column called ‘Number’,"

so I only made 'Number' column for mine on Google:

When published as html like the author's, it looks like this:

I thought this looked fine and put my Google username and password in the Processing code, as asked, so that it can get to this file, but it's not recognizing it and the image comes out like this:

Sorry they are so big!!!

I tried changing my data file name to just "MyRandomNumbers", "t6mq_WLV5c5uj6mUNSryBIA", "SimpleSpreadsheetManager", like written in the code, but doesn't work.

I tried saving it as html on Google Drive, and still no.

Anybody have ideas?

About the set error: see the Technical FAQ, lot of useful (I hope) information there, among them the Cannot find a class or type named "Xyz" article...

Sorry about that, I re-read the tutorial and found a crucial sentence that helped me figure out what I was doing wrong!!! Careful reading is so very important...

And thank you for the FAQ link, PhiLho, it does contain lots of helpful-looking info. I'll remember to check it next time something happens
