Hi,

I'm very new to processing and I have a question:

I have an image, and if you click on it I want it to be a next image, but the next image has to be a random one.

Something like a random image gallery.

I hope anyone knows how to make this happen.

Here is some sort of recipe:

1- Create an array with your images

2- Use the mousepressed method to:

2.1- Get a random number

3- Display the image from the array that match the previous random number

Tha following *Not working code* illustrates the above

int numberOfImages = 5;
int randNumber;
PImage images[] = new PImage[numberOfImages];
void draw() {
image( images[randNumber], 0, 0 );
}
void mousePressed() {
randNumber = (int)random( numberOfImages );
}

Thanks a lot for the quick reaction!

But I don't really understand what to do yet. For example I don't even know how to make an array of images.

First time processing...

For instance, my images are named 'one' 'two' 'three' 'four' and 'five', what would the code look like then?

Better to generate your random number on mouseReleased() that way you only get one random number rather than a succession of random numbers for the short duration of the mouse press.

I watched the video's 1 to 8, and I learned a lot. But in #8 he explains how to make an array out of twenty times the same object, like 20 or 100 balls in his tutorial. But I still don't understand how to make an array of for example 5 different images. I searched and tried a lot but I couldn't find the right answer.

I did find another code for making such as a random image generator. It's something like this:

PImage[] myImageArray = new PImage[25];

for (int i=0; i<myImageArray.length; i++){
  myImageArray = loadImage( "fileName" + i + ".png");
}

void mousePressed(){
  image(myImageArray[(int)random(25)],0,0,width,height);
}

but if I put it in the screen with the setup and stuff, it keeps telling me 'cannot convert PImage into PImage[]'.

I really don't know how to solve problems like this, and I hope you might know the answer.

the problem is in this line:

myImageArray = loadImage( "fileName" + i + ".png");

it should be:

myImageArray[i] = loadImage( "fileName" + i + ".png");

didnt test it, but i think it should work after this fix.

That was what I was looking for. Now I have another question: I've a screen of 600 by 600 pixels and the image is 100 by 100, but the image changes wherever I click in the screen. I want it only to change when I click at the exact image. I know it's something with checking the mouseX and mouseY but I dont know how to write it..

Here's my code:

PImage[] myImageArray = new PImage[5];

void setup() {

size(600, 600);

for (int i=0; i<myImageArray.length; i++) {

myImageArray[i] = loadImage( "frag" + i + ".jpg");

}

void draw() {

}

void mousePressed() {

image(myImageArray[(int)random(5)], 0, 0, 100, 100);

}
