Since you're gonna use it for CAD, you need a high-performance CPU.
And since Processing loves OpenGL, a good GPU is also recommended.

For CPU, latest Intel's i5 CPU/APUs are a good call.

Although i5's graphics capability is reasonable for a laptop,
if you find you need more performance, you may consider getting one w/ a dedicated GPU.

I think nVidia has top-notch drivers for its GPUs, more friendly to OpenGL,
and consequently, more easy ride if you decide to go for Linux as well! 
And also, the only "real" solution for more "obscure" OSes like FreeBSD and such!  

Although AMD's ATI is of late very friendly to OpenGL too,
leaving behind its monopoly focus on DirectX only!

Ah! 8 GB of RAM and perhaps an extra SSD and a big screen are gr8 also!

It's just general advise. Dunno how much it costs though!

I'm looking for a Notebook, too, which I can use for GigE camera processing unsing the ImageJ interface.

As stated here NIC selection by Allied Vision, there are only a few NICs that will work properly.
There are some Intel network chips, which should work with GigE cameras, but I can't find any Notebook supplied with Intel network chips; all use Realtek.

So I was looking for a Notebook having an Expresscard interface; but surprisingly there are also very few having one.

Can someone tell me a Notebook (having a 15" or better 17" display and an Intel i7 of the 3rd generation), which I can use for GigE cameras?

Maybe this is not a general GigE problem, but a problem of Alliend Vision. I posted the same question here Imaging Source
and they told me I could use a Relaec NIC, too.

So, what are your experiences?
