Hello,

i am trying to get my ps3 eye cam running, but i had to find out that the newest macam version 0.92 is not compatible to mac osx 10.8 mountain lion.

So are there some alternative drivers or a solution to macam under 10.8?

in the end i used a microsoft webcam, the livecam cinema i guess. not the cheapest but a 1280x720 resolution.

Hello it's me again :)

Just a last questions, to be sure about my purchase :

- Do you need to use a another soft to make the life cam working (like macam) ?

- Is-it working with processing 2 ?

- Did you try some opencv experimentation with that cam ? with wich lib ?

hello stephane,

I think I it worked without any additional software and in processing 2.0. Simply try the gettingstartedcapture-sketch in the processing examples.

I never tried to make anything with opencv yet.

Just for information : i bought a Logitech C310 and work great on mac 10.8 and processing 2.07. Not yet test on opencv !

?!? I've been using the PS3 camera on 10.8 since it came out. In fact, last month I installed the Macam driver on 7 different exhibition computers running Mountain Lion for an installation, and they all worked perfectly...

Sorry Jesse, What is the macam version? Because no one had could use PS3 on Mountain Lion with macam.

I've been using PS3 eye with 10.8, too. The only thing that doesn't work properly is the macam app itself. You can tweak the camera settings and all, but when clicking "play" it freezes on the first frame. It's kind of a pain because I have to stop and play the camera everytime I change a setting but I can still use it.

Here my hacky solution:

- Install macam.component into your quicktime library folder: http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/downloads.html

- Install X11: http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/

- Install the GSVideo library: http://gsvideo.sourceforge.net/ (It follows the API of the built-in video library so you don't have to change your code).

- Open Photobooth to block access to the default camera.

A few caveats:

1) There is a non-blocking error happening, due to the Photobooth trick.

objc[1363]: Object 0x11ccda0 of class NSThread autoreleased with no pool in place - just leaking - break on objc_autoreleaseNoPool() to debug

2) Processing's native video library doesn't like the Photobooth trick. It just freezes on running the sketch, then print a bunch of those when you quit:

usbConnectToCam-USBDeviceOpen: Error: kIOReturnExclusiveAccess - exclusive access and device already open

Another lead from the Cinder forums (http://forum.libcinder.org/topic/ps3-eye-playstation-eye), this guy created a custom driver for PS3Eye based on libusb : https://github.com/inspirit/PS3EYEDriver
