I am looking for a coder/programmer to collaborate with me on an art project to be shown at Phoenix Gallery Brighton and throughout UK .
In a nutshell I am using "cut up" or the Burroughs method, to facilitate the construction or emergence of new or Meta narratives out of existing social media data. In the project called “Haiku; Burroughs Engine Number 1”. I intend to take "haiku" from twitters open API, break them down into 9 key words that are used to search YouTube for 9 .flv files to be shown concurrently on a screen divided into 9 sections. {3 rows of 3}. These run for 30 seconds in black and white before the process is repeated. The viewer can also {live} tweet their own Haiku or 9 word narrative to a specified hashtag destination which will be converted as above. Each 30 second 9 part narrative will be preceded by a silent movie inspired plate with the original Haiku that is being converted along with the creators twitter name and avatar. As an extra element of Chaos I propose that the words are allocated to the “panes” randomly thus insuring a unique product even using the same Haiku. I have tested this theory and it produces a very interesting effect as new narratives emerge from the screen.
Demo's can be viewed on my homepage mediapilgrim.co.uk
