Processing is very popular amongst artists for interactive installations and designers doing data visualizations. A good overview can be found in the Exhibition Archives. Design Studios and Agencies utilize Processing or similar creative software like OpenFrameworks or VVVV to explore new ways of interaction and visualization.

Your questions are a bit confusing. What do you mean by "professional"? What do YOU want to do with Processing? Earn money? Or teach students the basics of programming?

By professional I mean something you do to earn money and not as a hobby.

 

I want to do diferent things with processing:

 

I already do:

 

1. Have fun

2. Teach my pupils and my sons the basics of programming in a funny way. For this I also use game maker.

 

I have much free time and I see I can learn processing quick and make good projects. I also have good pupils who can make a good team with me in the future, when they learn, so I want to know if processing is a good thing for them to start a career and for me to use my free time earning money. I want to know who can be my future clients. If in a small town like Seville Spain I can find clients, or if I have to work in internet, what kind of projects.....many things

 

 

• Are you the creative type or the logical thinking developer?
• Do you want to create your own things or do you want to help someone with a creative idea make it work on the technology side?
• Are you interested in screen design, generative graphics, info viz, physical computing or interactive installations?

Off the top of my head:

• Art+Com do amazing installations. And I know they do some of their prototyping in Processing
• meso is in the same league. They have also done great interactive stuff (and developed VVVV).
• and let's not forget UVA!
• Jer Thorp does great data visualizations and get's to talk at conferences and is a Data Artist in Residence at the NY Times.
• Joshua Davis (although more on the Flash/ActionScript side) has made himself a name as a generative designer and artist and has worked for brands like BMW and IMB.
• Dan Shiffman teaches at ITP and has just written a second book on Processing.
• One of the profs from my Uni has a small design bureau, and they occasionally rely on generative graphics for new aesthetics.
• You live in Spain? Go to OFFF and be inspired!

This is just a mere fraction of people working with and around Processing. And I probably have forgotten about the best ones. But... don't make it about money. Make it about heart.

Im more the logical thinking developer. I can be creative, but not in an artistic way, but for example finding didactics aplications, strategies, ideas..

 

I like programming, and I like to solve problems.  I dont mind if they if it is with my own proyects or helping others.

 

I think I would like more physical computing and interactive instalations, but I could work on others. I like solving problems, so I dont mind to work in diferent kinds, or in a part of a bigger project.

 

If I made it for the money I would´t do anything becaue I have to learn a lot and I dont know well if I would earn enought. I like it and by now Im doing it to have fun. But if I can earn  money with a hobby, its fantastic.

 

By now, the best thing is to learn and create an open processing profile with good project as a bussiness card.
