OK I fixed it by putting twitter4j.conf.Configuration at each point where Configuration is in my code but now I get
"cannot convert from twitter to twitter".

Any suggestions?

Fixed the issue. Did twitter4j.Twitter twitter and it worked perfectly.

Will I still be able to use the AlchemyAPI plugin along with everything else?

I don't really know gephi and even less the AlchemyAPI, so it is up to somebody else to answer... Now, if it is made with Java, there is no reason it won't work (unless managing graphics on its own, or something like that).

I did manage to import the Gephi toolkit into Processing but I didn't use it in the end.
I managed to set everything up but had to scrap it because I couldn't get it to read the real-time data I had.

So to set it up just drag the toolkit into the sketch window and then follow the code in the link PhiLho provided. That should set you up.

Hope it all goes well for you, let me know how you get on as I want to use Gephi for a different project.

It basically went like this:

Is your file a .gml file? I managed to import a file but the tags for each section never showed. I had to retrieve real-time data so in order to use it with Gephi I had to save it into a graph file and then import it into Gephi which was very long and complex.

I think the only control over aesthetics is down to the layout algorithm you use. Force Atlas two is really good because it spaces all the nodes out. You would have to set the repulsion to really high (like 22000). The functionality is controlled more by Processing. So mousePressed, mouseDragged etc will move the position of the graph. In the example that's how the the graph moves. Displaying stuff on each node is also done in Processing I think so the functionality (depending on what it is) should be limited too much.

You don't have to install the toolkit into Gephi as it's just a stripped down version of the software, it has no GUI.
The software is easier to use and is more intuitive.

For the demos, I don't think you need Netbeans. If you change the file extension to .pde, it might run that way. Try it out and let me know.
