Processing reading textfiles with voice

Hej,

I am working on a installation and i was wondering if it is possible to use processing for reading several text-files with that computer-auto-read-voice after getting some impulse from sensors connected to arduino?

i was searching in the forum but didn't find anything about it. Nobody ever tried? I can't believe that.

I hope you guys understand what i mean :)

Yes it is

You have a processing library doing tts.
Any java TTS library would works too.
Reading several text files is quite easy as there are examples showing that.
I answered to the question "is this possible".
If you have a more detailled problem just let us know.

I skimmed through TTS library a little and wound up using RiTa library for text to speech. It uses TTS library and for programming TTS it would be the same. Its also a good library for animated typography, text formatting -- as an alternative. Here's an example of how you might call text to speech with rita:

if (isLoaded) {speech.stop();delay(100);speech.speak(CurrFeed.getTitle() + ". " + Desc);}
else {speech.speak("Loading Feeds. Please wait.");}

i'll give it a try too.

i guess it's also possible to change the voice to female too, isn't it?

The standard TTS engine comes with one voice called 'kevin', supposedly the 'teenage male voice'. More voices are available as TTS but most people go with mbrola which it seems is essentially what's included in MAC OSX. Because of this, using different voices is easier for MAC users. Windows users need to install mbrola. I've tried but haven't successfully gotten it installed. Personally, I've found it tricky installing female and foriegn tts voices on FreeBSD but I think most *nix and bsd systems can access both mbrola and tts voices within processing.
