Processing 2.0b9 fails to launch ANY sketches

Hi

Just downloaded 2.0b9 and excitedly fired it up to see how some of my sketches ran and... nothing. Tried another sketch... nothing. Tried an empty sketch with just basic size(500,500) definition and background(255,0,0) in draw()... nothing. Tried one of the example files... nothing.

Thought it might be a java issue so quitted, installed latest java update, rebooted machine, fired up processing and... nothing.

Yellow play icon lights up but no sketch window opens. I can stop the app by pressing the stop button but there's no evidence of anything stopping.

I hesitate to post it as a bug so soon as it seems pretty, um, significant! Any pointers to other hardware/configuration/software updates that could be reponsible?

I'm running Vista on a Dell XPS with Nvidia hardware. All previous Betas ran just fine :-(

Noticed the troubleshooting section in help...

Deleted preferences... nothing

Turned off maximum memory allocation... nothing

Added .\processing.exe --l4j-debug to the command line for launch which yields this...

...but still nothing

The only thing I've noticed is that a java.exe process gets added within Task manager but not killed off when I stop the sketch. Each time I attempt to run the sketch a new java.exe process gets added.

Just double checked and 2.0b8 still runs fine.

Just tried it, on Windows 7. I have a 64-bit system, but I download the 32-bit version, because I don't need so much memory, and it appears to be less trouble... Java is now always shipped with Processing, so there is nothing to adjust there.

The first time I ran a sketch, I had a Windows firewall prompt about allowing or blocking Processing. I allowed it, I suppose it is the check for new updates. Did you have this message? Perhaps check the settings of your firewall: it isn't supposed to block running sketches, but who know?
Otherwise, works fine.

Found the relevant info in the revisions.txt file about the firewall stuff:

+ Rebuilt the internal Runner to use SocketAttach... This may bring up 
  a firewall message on some machines. Don't worry, it's safe (as long as
  the message is showing up when you hit Run, that's expected).

Don't recall seeing a Firewall warning but had a look in Control Panel just in case. Java.exe is listed as an active exception and I explicitly added processing.exe in case that made a difference. Made no difference, unfortunately.

Java(TM) Platform SE Binary is listed as a potential exception but isn't ticked. But I'm fairly sure I don't want this to be able penetrate the Firewall, right?

Other than that, I updated my graphics card drivers in case the issue was related to...

Something was/is wrong with the processing-0217 (processing-2.0b9) linux64 release, however processing-0218 seems to be working fine when built from source from github (all you need is ant and jdk preferably 1.6.0_43). Makes one think, could it be the build that went wrong, couldn't be could it?
