Hey All,

I've got a large processing project that works in the IDE and as an exported application and I'm trying to create an applet version as well.

I'm on a mac running os x 10.6.7 and I believe my JRE and JDK are up to date.

I'm using a few libs including toxilibs, peasycam, controlp5 and openGL.

I've signed all the .jar files as instructed in the wiki http://wiki.processing.org/w/Sign_an_Applet

I know the signing as "worked" because I get prompted to allow the program to run and such (see image below).

However, I still get the white screen of death and this error in the Java console:

The important part of the error is this line:

java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.util.PropertyPermission java.io.tmpdir read)

It looks like you're trying to read a file from the client's computer. Are you sure signed applets have this capability? Or, if you sign with a specific set of permissions, are you sure the permissions for the applet include reading from tmpdir?

Also, when I tried to load your applet online, this was the exception I got:

Thanks for the reply Hellochar!

So as far as I know my code does not read any files. It does load fonts, however, those should be in the .jar file. And it does have some functions that write pdfs but those need to be called directly.

I'm not sure how to sign with specific permissions. I'm new to applets and just following the instructions on the wiki.

I tried to commenting out almost everything in the draw loop and then resign the applet but I still had the same problem.

What does that error that you got mean?

Next I'm going to try to remove various libs to see if one of them is the problem.

Any advice you could give me for trouble shooting this would be greatly appreciated.

When I click on the More information... link, it explains that your applets contains signed and non-signed jars. Try and sign all the jars you need.

So all of my .jar files were signed. The problem disappeared when I got rid of opengl. I suspect it was the opengl jre 6 conflict. I've tried exporting the app under processing 2.0a4 (which according to this should have solved the problem). But now I get a new error in the java console:

Hi phi.lho,

Thanks for your help. I saw that warning and did not know that was not normal. This is my first time making an applet. Oaky, I've verified each .jar and they all check out.

Can anyone else imagine what could be the problem?

I've not tried removing each lib one by one to see if there is a specific one that is the problem.

Looks like javax.media.nativewindow.CapabilitiesImmutable is a JOGL class, perhaps you missed one jar?

I'm definitely signing all the .jars. I'm not the only one with this problem, I just found this Issue 845. After following his advice and changing the .jnlp link the applets starts to load and then balks:

Yes, that's a problem regularly raised on the forum. One issue might come from the native libraries used by JOGL to communicate with the OpenGL drivers. I have done almost no OpenGL coding and not much applet uploading either, so I can't help much.

Thanks, for you help, I've posted on a few of the other relevant threads so hopefully someone can help in the short term, and hopefully these issues will be resolved with the final release of 2.0. Not being able to export applets that use opengl is a drag, and in 2.0 P3D is gone, so....
