I was just playing with you library but the example it comes with is not an vNESp5 example. Any way I did a very simple code and try a few roms on it but the output was always black. I am looking at the library source to see if I can figure out what is wrong but If you know what can be happening I will be very happy to hear about.

Nice that you try it. I updated the library vNESp5 with a usefull methods for autoRelease the key pressed. And I posted a examples here:

One note: I didn't add any rom in example they have to be place in data folder.

OK I have try the new lib with the basic example, but the output is a black window. It looks like the emulator is not updating the image. I am running on an Ubuntu machine (if that make any difference). Any way what would be a good rom to test the library, I was using the 1942 game but I have try other roms with no success. Well I will keep trying the library, I will love to have this working ...

Ok, for some reason the CPU Thread function "run()" is been call just one time therefore there is no update to the emulator ... no update to the PPU logic ...  no image on the screen. I believe this is the problem.

Well I just tested with a rom in Ubuntu 10.4 LTS and worked well. I download the one is publish in my website, because still didn´t test and it works well. I didn´t know where library was taking in ubuntu means I put in sketch inside the "code" folder. But there is no problem in CPU thread, everytime you call draw program is update image from emulator.

Las week I used in a workshop of innovation in game interfaces in Kortrijk (Belgium) at  Industrial Design Center. Take a look the results http://www.flickr.com/photos/mcanet/sets/72157629637356019/

Make one thing download again library to know it is same. Place rom in data folder, check you have full name of the rom in myEmulador.loadRom( "name room") then put library in code folder or in libraries. Let me know if success.

OK ... for some reason the library does not work on ubuntu 11.10, linux mint 12  and opensuse 12, BUT,  It does work on ubuntu 10.04 and Frugalware 1.6. I will test it later on Fedora. Any way I have no idea why this is happening since processing for linux comes with its copy of java. If I can figure out what is wrong I will post it here. It will be nice to have it working on ubuntu since there are so many distributions base on it.

I will take a look in Ubuntu 11.10 that I have installed too. I hope I see what is happen and I can fix it.

Ok I figure out the problem ... The CPU tread is sleeping forever. Why?
Here is the problem:
 At the class AppletUI there is a method called " public void imageReady(boolean skipFrame)" there you will find this code

do {
   try {
      Thread.sleep(timeToSleep);
   } catch (InterruptedException e) {
   }
} while ((timeToSleep = nes.papu.getMillisToAvailableAbove(min_avail)) > 0);

For some reason timeToSleep  is always 183, and so CPU sleeps forever.

This code has to do with sound, if you disable sound in processing (myEmulador.enableSound(false);) the library will work.

For now I will try to understand nes.papu.getMillisToAvailableAbove(min_avail) to try to come with some solution, but if you have one first you are welcome !!!

Good job identifying the problem.

I could update vNESp5 to latest version to vNES 2.15, now is running with the 2.13. Although looking "change log file" not mention any improvement in this direction: http://www.thatsanderskid.com/programming/vnes/changelog.html

I think there is a reported bug in ubuntu 10.10 with SourceDataLine using jdk-1.6 and I didn't see that is a resolve bug yet:

At least is good works without sound.

Ha ha ha I am so happy !!! I have vNESp5 running with sound on Ubuntu. This is what I did.

1. Change the method imageReady(boolean skipFrame) from the AppletUI class to this

2. Rename the java directory in the processing directory to something else to make processing look for the  java jdk installed on Ubuntu, in my case openjdk6.

NOTE: If you do want to use the java that processing comes with, do not rename the java directory in processing,  install openjdk6 and do the following:

cp /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/lib/i386/libpulse-java.so PROCESSING_DIR/java/lib/i386
cp /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/lib/ext/pulse-java.jar      PROCESSING_DIR/java/lib/ext


With that the library works !!!

I think that the changes done to imageReady should not affect windows or mac but who knows (ver para creer).

I had add you code to vNESp5 library, but in a way is compatible with old one too. I add method for fix linux problem called:
public void setSoundBufferFixTimeToSleep(int value)

This method makes the fix sleep you implemented. I already upload to github repository and add in readme some extra instructions:

I updated the step 2, It looks like the java that comes with processing for linux is missing 2 files (look at my post before this one).

Anyway you know, It will be nice to have vNESp5 working with the wiimote. I have use wrj4p5 before but now I am trying to learn motej, I let you know as soon as I have something. Also, It will be nice to have a resize function for the emulator ...Hmm ... I think I will try something today, I want to see the game bigger !!!

ok, I update step 2 like you write in post previous.

About resize, it was already a method inside draw method you can define width and height to draw.

You can make working with the wiimote. You just need to use in sketch vNESp5 and a wiimote processing library. vNESp5 it self will not connect to wiimote or other device idea is that is able to connect to any existing one that processing have compatibility.
