It is a bit vague. Do you mean packing the icons tighter (reducing the space between them)? Flowing them differently? Reducing their size?

These icons are hard coded.

I assume you are giving absolute pixel positions to locate the icons which causes icons on the right hand side to go off-screen when the skecth display width is reduced. One solution would be to use width and height which give the size of the display in pixels.

So if you have an icon of width ix and you want it to be on the right hand size of the screen then the x position would be width-ix
If this is done inside the draw() method then as you change the sketch window size the icon should be repositioned to stay on the screen.

I suppose my question is not clear....I wanted to ask if the displayed stuff exceeds the screen's visible range, can I introduce something like horizontal and vertical scroll bars so that I can slide and view the extreme edges of the sketch. Had it been an image, it would have been Ok to add scroll bars but can I scroll the hard coded geometry? If possible, then how?

yes, it is drawn even if it is off screen. but when doing something like scrollbars you better move the elements you have drawn by using translate() and not the viewpoint, so it actually doesnt matter.

This is a common design problem. If the icons are being drawn by image() you can always force them to a smaller size... I've often seen code that goes something like:

standardWindowSize = 1024;
standardIconSize=64.0;
iconSize = standardIconSize * ( (userWindowSize >= standardWindowSize) ? 1.0 :
                                                      ( user WindowSize / standardWindowSize));

So Your icons look as you would expect for most users, while maintaining some overall usability & design coherence for people who are still using their grandma's hand-me-down computer from 1998.

But it's generally a matter of taste and intended function, maybe you prefer scroll bars (unless you're selling the software, at which point randomized trials for usability start to take over)

Ur program is something like wot i actually wanted but thats a solution to the geometry that has been drawn once and with the repeatition of draw loop the output gets cleared and the newer one is drawn as the mouse drags it.
But my icons are drawn at particular coordinates wen the corresponding buttons are clicked, so I cannot set background() in draw()  function, it has to be in setup() function else my buttons don't work.
Any solution to this?

Is there any option that I can store the size of the machine's screen(on which the program is going to be executed) and then assigning that size to my output(processing) screen and draw the icons relative to the screen size?
