OpenCV camera tracking data

I have camera tracking working with opencv.

However what I want to do, just to get started, and I have been tairing my hair out trying to solve this problem. Is to to receive data of distance and proximiti from the camera and then use this data to signal movements to video seq, and sound. First I want to simply use the distance and proximity to point to a place in the time line of the video.

I would appreciate any help in this area, to get me started.

Have you considered using the kinect? How are you getting distance from the camera using openCV?

Thanks I'm not, I'm using centroids for motion detection and background subtraction, I just need to know the method usd to extract the data for use in Processing and Max.

If you are getting a range of values from a computer vision algorithm, you could use the map function to map whatever input range to a place in your video. For example, if you knew you knew the duration of your video was 100 and you "x" centroid values ranged from 0 to 640 you could say.

float t = map(x,0,640,0,100);

movie.jump(t);

If you are using a different framework to control OpenCV, you could stream in the data using OSC (or some other network based communication protocol). Or you can use OpenCV directly.
