Old style text screen

Hi,
I'm new to processing but have some experience programming C and C++.
For a small project, I would like to use a sort of "old style" scrolling text window such as a Unix / Linux terminal, with a sort of scanf and printf functions to interact with the user using the keyboard. Is this possible in processing ?

Ok, then .. how ?
I mean, will the drawing screen be used as a the scrolling text window ? or the console output ? should I use a library ?

A way to do that is to put the lines in an array list.
Processing works, in general, by re-drawing the whole sketch display on each frame, each call of draw().
So you select the lines to display from the array list and redraw them.
Text input must be managed manually (but there are GUI libraries helping with that) by getting each key stroke, and storing them in the input buffer.
