noob question importing images/masks

hi i am trying to make a short animation where points will appear randomly within the outlines of the text, to eventually make up the letterforms, originally i wanted to just make the points appear randomly across the whole sketch and then import the image below to mask off the other areas, but so far i have only been able to import the image and then draw points above the image ?

is there a better way of doing this ?

any help would be great as i am new to processing

Can we see the code you're using to draw the image and points? Hint: the order you draw things in matters.

at the moment its just showing a white screen, it seems that its not importing the actual letters which should be transparent or "cut out" is there a better format to use than svg? thank you for the reply

You can either draw the points in a PGraphics and mask this draw with your image (look for mask() in reference), or test colors in image (not displayed) to decide if you draw or not. I mean: if this pixel is black in the provided mask image, don't draw a point, else draw it.

Any way AFAIK Processing uses black and white for alpha value, so instead of an image with alpha like the one above you want a black and white image, where full white is full transparent. For this last approach you will want to look for pixels[] (array) and get() in reference.
