I've received a few emails about people not seeing the "New Topic" button at the top of the forum (to the left of the search box). At first I thought it was people not paying attention, but there have been enough now that it seems some people aren't seeing the button. Has anyone who can now see the "New Topic" button had problems with it not showing up in the past?

Well, I can't say I created many threads (if any), but as far as I recall, I have seen this button.
It is a simple textual link inside a div which adds the background graphics making it standing out, but it should be visible even if the image cannot be loaded.
Is there a pattern in the browsers used by those not seeing it?

I only see the "New Topic" button if I am signed in. The button is visible with or without the external background image loaded. I bet its because people are not signed in and cookies are being eaten. If I close my browser in either IE or Chrome on Windows 7 the site logs me out causing me to not see the "New Topic Button" anymore (even though I knew I signed in 10 minutes ago, but accidentally closed my browser). I use google apps to sign in.

this is what it looked like if you were not able to see the "New Topic" button...

only those who CAN see the NewTopic button are able to post... and say that they can see it. those who can sign in but can't see the button displayed, cannot post.

(what other use is there to 'signing in', if you can't see the "NewTopic" button ?)

so, as a kind of proof that there is a world where people can see you but you can't see them...

the following is what it looks like if you can sign in but CANNOT see the "New Topic" button:

the green-on-yellow "New Topic" button SHOULD be visible next to the Search field, to the left of the 'magnifying glass'

( the "New Topic" button should be present for everyone who is "signed in";

( it should be located about an inch from the top of the screen,

( at the upper right corner,

( on every Processing Forum page.

OK, I think we're getting to the bottom of this. From the image you posted Ian, it looks to me like you are signed into Zoho, but you haven't yet joined the Processing Forum. See the blue "Join Now" button beneath the Search box? You need to join the Processing forum before you'll be able to see the New Topic button.

no, it was because of *cookies* stored by zoho&processingforum. i cleared all 'zoho' and 'processing forum' cookies -- and then could see the New Topic button. i do not know more specifically WHICH specific cookies were the culprits; i deleted all 'zoho.com' and 'forum.processing.org' cookies.
