Microphone Volume detection

Hi,

I creating a project that needs to detect the volume level from a microphone and then affectively turn mic on and off by adjusting the volume levels. So far i have downloaded the Ess library but i am struggling to understand what i need to do any help would be appreciated.

it doesnt need to be complicated just a simple mic on and off thing.

I'd rather use the minim library and simply take the nameOfMicrophoneInstance.getGain() function (if you did not do very much with ESS yet, the adjustment shouldn't be too hard ;))

Basically you need to figure out the average noise level in the room. Then you can check if the microphone input is higher than that threshold and go for a recording. I did exactly what you need for a transcription library that waits for you to say something, records it to a file, saves it and analyzes what has been said (speech to text). If you also need the files then you could use it or I can make an example on how to do the average calculation and recording mechanics :)
