Memory beyond 2GB of a Mac???

Hello,

Has anybody succeeded in increasing processing's memory beyond 2GB on a Mac running OSX?

This seems to be the absolute limit no matter what kind of Mac computer, and what version of processing I use.

(Beyond this the sketches will not run)

Could somebody please tell me how to get around this?

Moved to Integration & Hardware as it isn't really a Programming Question (or they are all...).

And you might want to look at a 64bit JVM.

hi phi.lho,

any pointers on how I can get started with the 64bit JVM?

(i understand i have to update the opengl libraries - but how do i install it and get it to work in the first place?)

you have to open the java control panel and move the 64bits on top.
note that some feature that depend on external libs (like opengl, midi,serial etc...) might or might not work.

Thank you Henri!

This works perfectly if I disable the 32bit version of Java on my older Mac running Tiger.

However, on the newer Leopard Macs I can't disable the 32bit version. I can change the order of the 64bit and 32bit versions, yet this has no effect on Processing, as Processing still starts in 32bit.

Any ideas how to disable the 32bit version on the newer Macs?

indeed, i tried to change the order and it has no effect.

maybe you can try to pass the argument to the VM : -d64

i use eclipse as my development tool now. it's not too complicated to setup and much more flexible and efficient.

i gave it a try, specifying the -D64 option to the VM in eclipse does work. some info about setting the 64bits mode in eclipse : http://processing.org/discourse/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1251771520

for doing the same in processing, it seems you can do so by creating a txt file :

i tried it, did not work :/

maybe someone else has an idea ? otherwise you can give eclipse a shot :)
