Max to processing via OSC

Hi,

I am trying to send an integer message from Max through OSC to processing and was wondering if this is something anyone has any experience with?

I have built a simple OSC send patch in Max but am unsure how to parse the messages effectively using processing. I would like the integer value so i can assign it to something like a co-ordinate in my processing patch.

I put a screen shot including all messages sent by the sketch below

Any help would be fantastic

Hi,

Im still a little confused Im afraid. Im trying to just get the integer argument from an OSC argument to assign to a variable in Processing. Here is as far as I've got...

As you can see from the bottom of the processing sketch, I can print the message that OSC has been received, and the type tag. But not the actual Integer, which I believe is stored in the variable firstValue? I've tried prinln (firstValue); at various points but cannot get any numbers out at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I am trying maxLink as an option for this now, as I said I am quite new to Processing and Java so am still trying to get my head around the syntax.

I am trying to use the message_board example to send an integer from a number box in Max to print out in the window but seem to only be able to send strings through the object even if I change the variable type.

Any help as to how this can be achieved would be massively appreciated.

It's really quite simple...

assuming your Max/Pd patch looks something like:

[bang]

|

[send /pitch $1]

| |

| |

| [delay 100]

| |

| [ bang]

| /

| /

[udpsend 12000(

then in Processing...

import & declare oscp5

import oscP5.*;
import netP5.*;
OscP5 incoming;

declare a global int variable

intt fromMaxValue;

set up your osc object in setup

incoming = new OscP5(this, 12000);

receive & parseosc

public void oscEvent(OscMessage msg) {
if (msg.checkAddrPattern("/pitch") && msg.checkTypetag("i")) { // if the address pattern matches, and the datatype matches
fromMaxValue = msg.get(0).intValue();
println("Pitch Received of " + fromMaxValue );
}
}

use int variable

stroke(pitchValue);

et cetera...

Make sense ?

Also, You have to make sure to run your Processing sketch first, with Max/Pd disconnected, then connect...
