loading an xml file into an applet

Hi I am trying to get an applet to read in an xml file. I have gotten it to read the xml file in Processing but as soon as i export it as an applet it does not work. I know this is because of applet permissions but sadly i have no clue how to get it working or even test it. I am currently using JAXB for the xml reading and parsing.
Any help would be appreciated.
